if you've not seen An Education, i urge you to. its storyline is simple: an English teenage girl who grows up in 1960s suburban London meets a man almost twice her age and begins on an unexpected journey into the beauties and vices of the world beyond her school life.

the delightful Carey Mulligan gave such a wonderful performance as the female protagonist that it is hard not to love every bit of the character. it is also hard not to fall in love with the fashion in this film because, well, it's the 60s fashion.

ha ha halloween .

with Halloween around the corner, i've been getting quite a couple of emails on "what to wear for Halloween". Halloween always seems so fun yet scary at times (thanks to Hollywood movies) so i've always wanted to attend a Halloween party but just never seem to find the right friends and/or party. it's also not really a Singaporean/Chinese culture to celebrate Halloween. but over the last few years, Singapore has definitely picked it up and more and more people are getting into the mood.

so while i've been in Melbourne since 2007, it's been great fun seeing people dressing up as everything and anything during Halloween. needless to say, i'll only be 'watching' and not participating again this year. but if i could, i would love to go in this -

i just love this picture. there's something childlike and endearing about Bergman here; i suppose it's the mismatching socks on him yet matching to Bertil's red shoes. seeing this just makes me wanna take my red high ankle socks out and wear them, once and for all! and for some reason, i can totally see him being featured on The Sartorialist if he were still alive.

every word above is true. The September Issue is indeed brilliant (kudos to director, RJ Cutler).
to be honest, i was not expecting much from this documentary film but Cutler proved me wrong with the way the stylistic and narrative elements were weaved together beautifully.
this cinematic following of Wintour was an eye opener but it's hard to feel for her cos even though she participates in the film, she doesn't exactly share much.
although the film's tagline says: "Anna Wintour and the making of Vogue", the story is, in my opinion, very much built around Grace Coddington, creative director of Vogue US.
she is the one who captured my heart and seemed like the only one who is genuine and real. her story is heartwarming and i couldn't help but tear up with her in the scene where she stood alone, starring out at a magnificent garden in Paris and reminiscing on her past.
she definitely had, and still has, a long run in the fashion industry together with Anna.

loverly to be in heaven.

we watched Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven in class today.
to say that it's a beautiful film would be an understatement.
from the cinematography to the script to the characters' performance, it's just unbelievably brilliant and pure amazement.
of course, Richard Gere was a nice addition to the film's aesthetics.

ps. i won a pair of tickets to the exclusive advanced screening of The September Issue at the Palace Cinema at Toorak! always wanted to watch a film there and now i finally can.
